Volunteering with us

Volunteers are at the heart of our service. They are often the first point of contact with clients either by phone or face-to-face, and this initial contact is then backed up with more in-depth advice and casework as necessary by our generalist and specialist advisers. We will provide full training and ongoing support  - all we ask in return is your enthusiusm, commitment, good communication and IT skills and a willingness to learn. In return, you will have the opportunity to improve your skills, knowledge and make a difference to your community.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

Contact Centre- 3 people to take initial calls from the public seeking advice on benefits, debt, employment, consumer, and housing. By asking questions you will be able to understand and then decide about how best we can help the client. These roles are based in the Carshalton & Wallington office (2 people on Friday and 1 person for Tuesday and/ or Thursday).

Information Centre - Based in the Sutton office next to the Civic Centre, you will take initial enquiries face-to-face from clients coming into our drop-in centre. Once again, you will ask questions on a range of topics similar to the contact centre to decide how best we can assist. Here you will also help some of the most vulnerable in our community, including Ukranian refugees.  We need one person for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Administrative Support - You will provide essential administrative support to our specialist Debt team and Housing solicitor, both based in the Carshalton & Wallington office. We need someone for 3 days to be mutually agreed.

Research & Campaigns - If you're interested in analysing big data to identify social policy issues which impact disproportionately or unfairly on people such as affordability of private rented accommodation, energy crisis and cost of living. As well as gathering evidence you will campaign for changes to the law, polices and procedures. Based primarily in the Sutton office you will also visit the Carshalton & Wallington office. We have openings for 2 people for a day each.

Generalist advisers/ caseworkers - Based at either office, you will advise clients on their rights and options on a range of issues at pre-booked appointments. This could be challenging government decisions, helping to take cases to tribunals, negotiating with agencies on behalf of clients as well as practical help in the form of drafting letters or form-filling.  Additional training is provided for this role. We are looking or up to 5 people with volunteering days and office location to be mutually agreed.
